Tesla Model Y on the throne
The American manufacturer of electric vehicles, the company Tesla, took first place in terms of the number of vehicles produced in the past year, surpassing traditional giants such as Ford or Toyota.
A comprehensive study conducted by the French company Inovev, specializing in electric vehicles, revealed that the Tesla Model Y surpassed the Toyota RAV4 and Ford F-series pickup truck to become the most-produced car in 2023.
The Tesla Model Y led the pack with a production of 1,137,885 units, while the Toyota RAV4 and Ford F-series produced 989,517 and 933,198 units, respectively. Furthermore, the Model Y also led in sales, with approximately 1.23 million vehicles sold during the same period.
It’s worth noting that these figures don’t encompass the total sales or production across all models for any manufacturer. For instance, China’s BYD produced over 3 million vehicles last year, significantly more than Tesla’s 1.84 million cars. While production figures are impressive, they are not the only indicator of success in the automotive industry.
The Tesla Model Y is outstanding, but its position on the list of the top 10 best-selling cars in 2023 is worth considering.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The 2024 Tesla Model Y is priced between $44,630 and $54,130 depending on the selected trim and options.
Here are the starting prices for each trim:
When considering an electric car, the focus is often on driving range. The Long Range and Performance models offer 310 and 285 miles of range, respectively. Opting for the Long Range model provides the best balance of extended driving range and impressive performance.
Customization options for the Model Y are limited, with only a few exterior colors available, most of which come with an additional cost. For those interested in adding a third row of seats, it can be included for an extra $2500.
A headache for every Tesla buyer: Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
The warranty for the Model Y matches that of the Model 3, Model S, and Model X, providing 4 years or 50,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage and 8 years or 100,000 miles of coverage for the battery and electric motors.
Here’s a breakdown of the warranty coverage:
- Limited warranty: 4 years or 50,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty: 8 years or 100,000 miles
- There is no complimentary scheduled maintenance included.
Chinese automotive giants, along with one of America’s most renowned companies, are strategizing to establish dominance against Tesla.
What’s New for 2024?
Tesla has not yet revealed any updates for the Model Y as it enters its fifth year in the market. However, Tesla tends to be less predictable than other car manufacturers and sometimes implements changes to its products mid-year. There are expectations for a styling update for the Model Y, known as Project Juniper, to be unveiled soon, although it is anticipated to be released as a 2025 model.
